Work Day Gym Session 28/10/2009

I got into the gym around 6:05pm since I was able to get off work early today. I got off the gym around 7:30 pm, total time spent in the gym = 1 hour 20 mins.

My workout routine as follows:

50 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 8.0kmph and gradient = 0
15 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 6.0kmph and gradient = 0 (Cool-down)
* Resulted in 8.2km jogged and around 675 calories burned.

In a few weeks time, I will be having my long holiday in Melbourne, Australia. I have yet to go to Australia since came back from there 2.5 years ago. I am trying to keep myself lean before I go there.

Weekend Non Gym Session 25/10/2009

Weekend Non Gym Session 25/10/2009

I woke up really late today around 9 am. I was looking forward to bring Little Foot for a walk. The weather was pleasant around 9:30 am. As such, walking Little Foot was very relaxing indeed.

Here are the stats of the walk:

Sunday, 25/10/2009, Light cardio session
25 mins walking Little Foot around the part for 4 times
* Resulted in 150 calories burned and about 2.4km walked(estimated)

I have recently completed Red Faction Guerrilla ("Red Faction") on the PC, here is a short review of the game. The game length was quite short as there were around three to five main story missions in each territory. There were a lot of side missions that I didn't bother to do as it seems to be very repetitive.

Unfortunately, Red Faction felt like a console game and was quite badly optimized. There were instances where my powerful PC was brought to its knees. Without further ado, here are some screenshots for viewing pleasure:

2. Your main character, Alec Mason

3. Some general that I killed in the later stages

14. Red Faction's artillery (similar to Call of Duty's bomber run)

15. Hydra the great battleship
Photobucket

16. Playing as the girl for Red Faction's DLC
Photobucket

17. The iconic logo of Red Faction
Photobucket
*Please note that I use the usual keyboard and mouse combo instead of my gamepad. This made the game a lot easier when in combat situations.

Pros:
1. Destructible buildings everywhere, blowing up stuff is fun.
2. Decent graphics
3. Good sound effects

Cons:
1. Vehicle handling feels unnatural
2. Missions are very repetitive (including side quests)
3. Terribly optimized, brought my powerful PC down to its knees at times.
4. In game map could be better
5. Feels exactly like a console game.

My verdict for this game is 6.5 out of 10. I will only recommend people who really enjoyed the first Red Faction. Fortunately, it is currently 50% off on Stardock's Impulse Driven, grab it while you can.

Work Day Gym Session 23/10/2009

Work Day Gym Session 23/10/2009

I got into the gym around 6:30pm since I was able to get off work early today. I got off the gym around 7:45 pm, total time spent in the gym = 1 hour 15 mins.

My workout routine as follows:

55 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 8.0kmph and gradient = 0
5 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 6.0kmph and gradient = 0
5 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 7.2 to 6.0 (cool-down)
* Resulted in 8.5km jogged and around 700 calories burned.

5 mins on the crosstrainer @ effort level = 0
* Negligible results.

I met my friend, Kavi in the gym today. We talked forawhile before I head off to the changing room. He is doing two gym sessions a day and have good progress thus far. As for me, I hope to shed off some fat with this heavy cardiovascular training for weeks to come.

Work Day Gym Session 19/10/2009

I got into the gym around 6:30pm since I was able to get off work early today. I got off the gym around 7:45 pm, total time spent in the gym = 1 hour 15 mins.

My workout routine as follows:

40 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 8.0kmph and gradient = 0
20 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 6.0kmph and gradient = 0
5 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 7.2 to 6.0 (cool-down)
* Resulted in 7.9km jogged and around 650 calories burned.

I had to switch from a mix of weight training and cardio training to pure cardiovascular exercise as I have injured my right arm lately. It hurts a bit when I move it extensively, I will wait for it to heal before doing weights again.

Weekend Non Gym Session 18/10/2009

Weekend Non Gym Session 18/10/2009

I woke up really late today around 10 am. I was hesitate to bring Little Foot for a walk but had do it, nonetheless. It was really hot at 11 am, seeing that Little Foot is unlikely to be walked in the evening, I decided to walk him just then.

Here are the stats of the walk:

Sunday, 18/10/2009, Light cardio session
25 mins walking Little Foot around the part for 4 times
* Resulted in 150 calories burned and about 2.4km walked(estimated)

I have recently completed Grand Theft Auto 4 ("GTA4") on the PC, here is a short review of the game. The game length was pretty long, I managed to complete in a shorter time thanks to the ability to take taxi anywhere in the game.

Unfortunately, GTA4 was badly optimized console ports. It took my really powerful machine to run this properly. Without further ado, here are some screenshots for viewing pleasure:

*Please note that I use the usual keyboard and mouse combo instead of my gamepad. This made the game a lot easier when in combat situations.

Pros:
1. Action pack, lot of stuff you can do ingame etc, playing darts, bowling and what not.
2. Good graphics, great sound effects and sound track
3. Good story (could have covered more stories about Nico Bellic's past)

Cons:
1. Easy to pick up but extremely hard to master
2. Uses Game for Windows Live (sometimes a hit and a miss)
3. Terribly optimized, brought my powerful PC down to its knees at times.

My verdict for this game is 8.8 out of 10. I definitely would recommend anybody who enjoys the previous Grand Theft Auto games to give this a try since it is available on the cheap for 2nd hands.

Work Day Gym Session 13/10/2009

* This was one heavy squat as I rarely do this heavy.

1x10 @ 40kg
1x10 @ 47kg

60 mins on cross trainer @ effort level = 11
5 mins on cross trainer @ effort level = 5 (cool-down)
* Resulted in 5.84km brisk walked and around 600 calories burned.

Due to the fact that I didn't not do 6 weight exercises for this gym session. I decided to punish myself into doing 60 minutes of cardiovascular exercises. I am hoping to do another gym session tomorrow in order to burn more calories.

Work Day Gym Session 10/10/2009

Work Day Gym Session 10/10/2009

I got into the gym around 6:00pm since I was able to get off work early today. I got off the gym around 7:30 pm, total time spent in the gym = 1 hour 30 mins.

My workout routine as follows:

Barbell shoulder press:
1x10 @ 20kg for warm-up
*Since the stabilizers on my muscles are weak and the fact that there were people hogging the smith machine, I decided to jog for an hour on the treadmill instead.

40 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 8.0kmph and gradient = 0
15 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 6.0kmph and gradient = 0
5 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 6.5kmph and gradient = 0
5 mins on the treadmill @ speed = 7.2 to 6.0 (cool-down)
* Resulted in 7.8km jogged and around 660 calories burned.

Although this gym session was fairly short, I was huffing and puffing on the treadmill and could wait for the end of it. Also, thanks to the session I did on Thursday, I was unable to recover fully before proceed to this session. I am hopeful to pull another gym session on Sunday if possible, bringing up my frequency to 3 times per week for this week.

I hope to increase the frequency of my gym sessions for the next coming weeks before my holiday to Melbourne, Australia as I would not be able to hit the gym for 10 days. As such, I should try to do as frequently as possible before that time.
